You ask the youth about the dreams they have for their generation, and they will talk speak their minds and say things that I had no idea they are thinking. The youth I am interviewing is between the ages of fifteen and thirty-five years of age. These are our future generation, born between late 1980’s and late 2000s. What they hold is key to what will shape what is to come, similar to what was to come for us for our future as we thought as youth. We had dreams, we had ideas, and we have witnessed the advancements made whether societal, economic, or technological.

Each generation is trying to break free from their past, and their constraints. Every country goes through a cultural change that can be seen through the expression of art, be it fashion, be it theatre, be it movies, or be it TV shows. If you want to learn about a culture, go and watch these from those times.

My approach to learning about our future in what is to come is through these interviews with the youth of today, and in addition, I want to see what is really on our youth’s minds, through a one-on-one conversation.

What they are experiencing is important to what is shaping their mind as well as what they are wanting for them and their future. A few things that are clear through these interviews: They are looking for freedom of thought, of speech, of action so they can do what they want to, and that they aren’t currently able to. They are looking for unity, with no race to divide them, with no hatred, they long for only friendships and love amongst peoples of different colors. They are looking for peace of mind and ability to self-motivate. They are looking for hope, they are looking for disrupting things that our generations haven’t been able to, and that is keeping them from advancing. They are looking for sustainable education that they are able to easily access, and importantly accessibility to education that is practical & useful and not just the degrees the education confers today.

Their dream for their own kind is to not underestimate the power they hold, but be able to do what ever they want to, become whatever they want to, because they can, and they will.  These are some of the most inspiring moments I have experienced as I hear them answer the question ‘What is your dream for the youth of America or the youth of the world?’.

And not once, not twice, I have gotten inspired over and again, each time the youth has spoken their mind, across the globe!
