During my travels across the eastern states of the US, I have met some of the most incredible, kind, extraordinary youth, and people of all ages, gender, and diverse backgrounds. But this article is about three instances where I questioned if it was Coincidence or Destiny?
First one happened when I traveled to my Alma Mater, North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, NC. The campus had changed entirely, so I was looking for a good place to go take pictures of our school. One student directed me to the Clock Tower. So I arrived at the clocktower and had my parking lights flashing, as it was going to be a short in-and-out type of a visit. Just as I finished the pictures, and video, I saw a student walk towards my direction, and didn’t hesitate once and asked if I could interview him. During the interview, he gave me answers to questions like favorite vacation, what he as studying, and when I asked for his phone number, it turned out that his number was from Chicago. So the commonality of the school was given, but his being in Engineering school, his likeness to going to Himalayas and me having done the basecamp of Everest, and then our Chicago connection, with me having done my MBA at University of Chicago was mind blowing to me, with a stranger I had never met. I am not sure if this is Coincidence or Destiny!
Second one happened at a hotel in Memphis, when a couple and I rode the elevator together, and in that short time, I got to know that the woman was working with youth (young homeless girls and had a non-profit). We both connected with our common theme of helping the youth.
Third one happened when I stopped at a Starbucks in Little Rock, only to find out that it was a drive through, and I wanted to go use their restroom. So I decided to go to another one close by. This location happened to be inside a Marriott in the downtown, so I drove there instead. While I was ordering, a gentleman saw my jacket with ChicagoBooth embroidered on it, and to started a conversation. It so turned out that he is a man of several talents, he is a minister, an artist, an author, a motivational speaker for youth, and owner of multiple businesses. I did not hesitate once to ask him for a youth he knew who could interview with me for the channel. And sure enough, I got my youth in Arkansas, who is an amazing 19yr old. As it turned out, his answers to the questions were very similar to another youth I had spoken to in Vermont. I am not sure if this is Coincidence or Destiny! (My hope is for these two youths from Vermont and Arkansas to connect and help each others’ communities and build a stronger America free of differences in race, color, backgrounds, and the state where they live).
