My destination from Dallas of my drive to the east coast on Day 1 was Itta Bena, Mississippi. The town where the King of Blues was born. To get into the mood of the Blues, I put B.B. King on my Spotify. I heard a lot of his songs, and the ones I loved I put them on repeat.

Two highlights of the drive culminating in my arrival at the birth site were, one, ‘Why I sing my blues’ song, that I must have heard more than any other, and two, driving through the cotton fields, literally through the fields on dirt road and imagining the life people lived during the times of Slavery.

When you hear the lyrics of the song, a song so deep, it makes one realize the gravitas of what the King of Blues is conveying. It brings goosebumps, tears, and really shakes you up. If you haven’t heard it, hear it again and only this time, be with the song.

His songs made me imagine that I was there in the fields, as I was driving with flat lands, fields, on both sides of the road. And once I arrived to his birth site my drive through the dirt roads was even more heartfelt. (Arrival at the B.B. King birth site)

My success rate with doing the Voice of the Youth series was 50%. One of the two I approached to interview was a young teacher from Mississippi who graciously agreed to interview with me. I have published it on my channel, do watch it, and listen to her dream for the youth.
