I missed my connecting flight from Heathrow airport in London on my way from Dallas, TX to New Delhi, India. I was lucky to be traveling in business class, as the hotel accommodation wasn’t available until 3pm and so I was able to spend my time at the British Airways lounge, take a shower and eat some snacks.
The voucher they gave me was for shuttle bus back and forth from Renaissance hotel in Heathrow area on Bath road and a night stay at the hotel. Waiting for the shuttle bus was not fun in the cold temperature and my clothing wasn’t prepared for the winds at the bus stop that had over thirty stands to pick from. After a wait of over an hour the bus Hoppa 5B was what brought us frustrated travelers to the hotel.
I met a lady from Nigeria on her way for her brother’s funeral, and another man who was from LA working in different US embassies across the world. He had worked at the Pakistan US embassy, the closest to India, but had not travelled to India yet.
It amazes me how beautiful and interesting people I meet during my travels. As I went downstairs for dinner with my voucher I had received in the day, I met this young girl who was from India studying in UK in public health. It reminded me of my youth, except we didn’t have these choices available to us, or little were we aware of these opportunities for a career.
Tomorrow will be a new day when I explore the city, before hopping into my flight in the evening to Delhi, that will bring me at a decent time than the earlier flight I missed that would get me in Delhi at 1:15am. Now I will arrive a day late at 8:45am, a decent time for my pick up in India.
